Founded in 2019. Focused on portraits since 2024.
5iveHead Technologies Ltd. was founded in 2019 by Benedict J. Ellerby, who remains its Chief Executive.
In the autumn of 2024, an internal review produced a result that changed the direction of the company. Within a year, it had become our only focus.
Dr. Imogen Ferris-Lowe, then a researcher in applied composition at the (now closed) Institute for Portrait Studies, joined to lead the science. Together with Dr. Marcus Ellery-Hall, she defined the measurable qualities that separate a good portrait from a great one. The first version of 5iveHead was built in a rented room above a dental practice in Croydon. It had one feature. It still has one feature.
Benedict J. Ellerby
Benedict founded 5iveHead in 2019 and has led the company ever since. He sets the standard for everything the company publishes, ships and photographs, and he is closely involved in every portrait that carries the 5iveHead name.
Benedict lives in London. He is a regular speaker on professional standards, and is a member of the 5iveHead Standards Committee.
One thing, done properly
We are often asked why 5iveHead has so few settings. The answer is that we believe in a single, considered improvement, applied with care. We don't comment on how it works. We have never needed to.
